TROPHIES & MEDALS

The WCG2024 logo featured a distinctive wave motif designed by ringatoi Graham Tipene (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Hine, Ngāti Haua, Ngāti Manu). The cresting wave alludes to the undulating waters that surround Tāmaki, as well as speaking to the energy and momentum of the Games. Within the typography, the green and blue tones reflect the stunning landscapes of Aotearoa New Zealand, evoking the natural beauty of the country’s forests, oceans, and mountains.

New Zealand creative agency Curative designed the trophies and medals won by choirs competing in the Champions Competition categories. The trophies were designed to reference two key natural features of Aotearoa, the land and the sea. The base was made from a recycled native hardwood to represent the land, and the top section formed from cast resin, which was sandblasted to give a sea-salty, semi- opaque finish. Graham Tipene’s ‘wave’ design lies across both sections of the trophy.

The medal's shape was designed to reference the toki (adze). Etched angles created a sense of thatching, the traditional binding methods used on the toki, and the ribbon used the brand’s core woven design. Winning choirs were presented with a single large medal and singers could purchase smaller medals as souvenirs.

Across the Games, 24 trophies, 131 medals and 150 diplomas were presented.
